The Westies secured the runners-up spot in Macron Store Sussex County League Reserve Section (East) courtesy of a 3-1 victory at home to Worthing United on Saturday.

Anything less than a win against bottom-of-the-table opposition would have meant Westfield finishing outside the top three, but goals from Steve Willis and Mike Booth gave them a handy 2-0 advantage at half time.

Willis opened the scoring with a cracking header after Steve Ringwood skinned his man from a short corner and Booth punished a defensive mistake by rounding the goalkeeper for number two.

After the break Booth added his second and Westfield’s third with a good header into the bottom corner following Jamie Bell’s marauding run down the left. Worthing nabbed a late consolation from the penalty spot.

The result caps a fine season for Westfield, who won 12 of their 20 league fixtures and reached the semi-finals of three cup competitions.

Despite their success, Westfield are on the hunt for a new reserve team manager for next season. The club is also seeking sponsorship for 2015/16 and interested parties should email [email protected]
