White: There’s more to come

Terry White believes there’s more to come from his Hastings United footballers.

Two away wins over the past week have extended United’s unbeaten run to six matches and manager White says they are now performing to the sort of level he would expect.

He said: “Momentum is a good thing, confidence is high and we seem to have found a system which suits us at the moment. Everybody knows their job now and they know exactly what I expect from them.

“I’ve got good players and I knew that in time if I could keep them fit and get everybody on the pitch that I needed, then we would be good enough to start climbing up the league table.

“It’s starting to show in our performances. The biggest thing for me is when we lose possession of the ball, we’re getting our shape back a lot quicker. If we don’t win it back immediately, we seem to get our team shape back.”

White says United’s best display so far this term came during the first half against Hythe Town in driving rain and he thinks they will get stronger as the pitches get softer.

“I still think there’s a bit more in there,” he continued. “We’ve got people that can pass the ball and people who are dangerous when the ball’s zipping off the ground.

“I think we will get better as we head into the winter months. The only thing I think we’re missing is a little bit of craft and guile, and somebody who can just pick a pass for us.”

United are now 13th in Ryman Division One South and their next two games are at home to the teams immediately above and beneath them, starting with Carshalton Athletic today (Saturday) and then Tooting & Mitcham United on Monday night.

“I just want us to go and be positive, hopefully get a positive result and hopefully feel some positive vibes from the supporters,” added White. “Our supporters are the best in the league by an absolute mile and they’ve got a big part to play. We want six points out of those two games if possible as much as they do.”

Frankie Sawyer is doubtful with a hamstring problem which he was due to visit an osteopath about on Wednesday, Sam Adams was expected to have treatment on a sore neck at training on Thursday and Charlie Fayers twisted his knee last weekend.
