Whyke prove a wow with another season of success

After last year's promotion for Whyke under-ten A, they were anticipating a difficult season.

They had a new strip and sponsor – New Age Glass – but there was no change in personnel which showed the spirit in the camp.

Early on Whyke climbed to the top of the table, with opposing teams unable to handle their attacking play. By November they had won seven out of seven but the cold weather brought a wobble.

They hadn’t won a game for three months and next up was a tough quarter-final against A division leaders Worthing United.

Although Whyke lost in extra-time they showed they were ready to dig in again.

That rejuvenated them and they found form against second-placed Worthing Town. A 2-1 win led to a five-game winning streak.

Outstanding performances followed, including an 8-1 win over third-placed Selsey, and although Predators were pushing them they were on the verge of winning another title.

On a hot day away to Midhurst, Whyke played scintillating football and the hosts couldn’t handle their slick play.

When the final whistle blew a 6-1 victory sparked celebrations as Whyke were champions again.

Coaches Ben Langton and Robert Tite were delighted. Langton said: “I’m immensely proud of my team this year for overcoming some difficult obstacles and showing the character to get results when it mattered most.

“They all played a big part and we’ll need to be ready for the challenge ahead in September ... watch out A division!”
