Wick chairman calls meeting about club’s future

WICK Football Club chairman Keith Croft has called a special meeting about the future of the club on Tuesday evening (May 3).

Croft is hoping local people will attend the meeting to discuss how, or if, the club can move forward. The meeting will take place at Wick’s clubhouse from 7.30pm and Croft said: “The meeting will be the beginning of the end, or a new beginning.

“It’s a do or die scenario, really. We’ll see what happens at the meeting and then make a decision.

“We’re hoping people interested in local football will come to the meeting. We just need help – anything they can help with. We need people who can spare a few hours a week – cutting the grass, anything.

“Most clubs are going through difficult spells. We’ve got the ground grading to try to sort out and need another 50 or so seats in place to stay in Division 1 and the cost of match officials is hard for us, too. We need to take about £180 to £200 every game to just about cover our costs.

“And, with Brighton & Hove Albion selling 20,000 season tickets, I know a lot of local people who have tickets there for next season, so there will be fewer people coming to local games.

“The committee here have been fantastic but we just need more help and support, which is why we’re calling the meeting to drum up the support of local people.

“I’m not trying to pull the sympathy card but I’ve got a great concern about the club’s future, so I don’t want to do nothing and say we’re okay.”
