Wick, who will be playing in Sussex County League Division 1 next season, have been without a manager since Jon Tucker left for Pagham earlier this month.

However, after a little thinking time, Croft has revealed a decision regarding their new manager is close.

He said: “We are quite close to unveiling our new manager now.

“The first target who we had did not come in the end, so that has delayed things a little.

“There are going to be a few changes at the club next season, so that has also forced us to delay the decision. But we are now closing in on the man to lead us next season.”

Croft felt it was important that Wick took their time with the appointment as they face playing in a higher division next season.

He said: “After gaining promotion, it was important that we took our time over the decision.

“We have had quite a bit of interest in the position and we are close to finding our man now.

“The new man has to be right for the club and be ready for the tough tests that awaits anyone in the County League.

“It’s our first season back up for a few years and we are hoping that it will be a successful one.”
