With his side trailing 1-0 to an early Sam Cane strike, Tucker came on with 15 minutes remaining as an extra man up front.

Within five minutes, Wick had levelled as Dan Swain netted from the penalty spot at the second attempt after Michael Sayers had been felled by the goalkeeper in the box.

Swain’s first spot-kick was saved but the linesman flagged as the hosts’ stopper came off his line, and Swain made no mistake with his second attempt.

With just a minute to go, Wick pinched a winner as an unmarked Tucker rose highest at the far post from a corner to head home.

Tucker said: “Credit to all the players for all the battle they showed. We always seem to concede after five or 10 minutes which is so frustrating as we always make it harder for ourselves.

“They had a young keeper in goal who was fantastic first half. Swainy, Kieron Playle-Howard had a couple and Stan Elder had a header which were all finger-tip saves.

“So we were 1-0 down at half-time which was very frustrating but we definitely thought we could come back into it.

“To do that, I was over the moon, credit to the players, not so much myself as I am past it now. I only signed on to boost up the numbers.

“We are not out of it yet, mathematically, but the teams around us have good, tough games against good sides to play, but we are not out of the woods.”

WICK: Jordan Matthews; Hotson, Sayers, Horne, Griffin; A.Cox, Swain, Urquhart, D.Cox; Playle-Howard, Elder. Subs: Fletcher (D.Cox 70), Tucker (Hotson 75).

Despite missing a host of players through injury and unavailability, Wick put in one of their best performances of the season on Tuesday to earn a 0-0 draw at Loxwood.

Jordan Matthews made a good one-handed save after 10 minutes, while at the other end Danny Cooper snatched at a shot when well placed. Loxwood hit the bar just moments later, while Wick’s Dan Cox fired over a decent chance.

Playing on the counter-attack in the second half, Wick’s best move came when Michael Frangou fired wide.
