Wick win in cup but Block targets points

WICK Football Club will meet either Peacehaven or Loxwood in the third round of the RUR Cup after a 2-0 win at division-lower Bexhill United on Saturday.

Despite being pleased with the win, manager Gary Block did admit that the search for league points is his top priority.

A first-minute goal from Scott Dormer and a second-half strike from substitute Brett Forden saw Wickers progress, and, bolstered by several new signings, Block hopes that the win will be a turning point for his side.

He said: “It was pleasing and very encouraging, and although cup runs are nice, league points are the priority for us.

“It’s good for confidence, and I thought we were comfortable.

“We had to defend well at times and could have won by more as we had several good chances, but it’s nice to win.” Wickers best chance fell to the re-signed George Gaskin, who had an effort saved, and Ruben French.

They have also signed Rob Wimble, who was cup-tied on Saturday, from local rivals Arundel.

WICK: Kason; Bagura, Hotson, Urquhart, A Brown; Asare, D Towers, Wilkins, French; Dormer, Gaskin. Subs: Peach (Hotson 10), Forden (D Towers 30).
