The U’s are seventh in Ryman Football League Division One South - two places and five points outside the play-offs, but with between two and five games in hand on every other club.

Wilson said: “I think it’s going to be an exciting time. It’s not a guarantee that we’re going to get into the play-offs, but we have got a good chance if we keep on the front foot.

“There’s a group of teams in there who are being consistent, but teams are playing each other so there will be points dropped.”

Next up for United is a visit from 15th-placed Three Bridges today (Saturday) - a game they really need to be winning in their quest to break into the top five. Kick-off at The Pilot Field is 3pm.

“They will be looking to bounce back from losing on Tuesday night,” added Wilson, who has no further signings in the pipeline at the moment. “Probably six or seven of their players myself and Danny (Bloor, assistant manager) have managed before.”
