Simon Wormull has signed Polish goalkeeper Pawel Szelemej ahead of tomorrow’s Sussex Senior Cup Quarter Final clash against Eastbourne Borough.
Twenty-one year old Szelemej recently moved to England, and up to last season was playing professionally in the fourth tier of Polish Football for KS Huragan-Morag.
He has been training with the club for the last month, and with confirmation of his international clearance and Rikki Banks’ unavailability due to being cup tied – and the small matter of the game being against his parent club – the Polish stopper gets his opportunity to impress the recently-installed Wormull.
Wormull said: “Pawel has impressed in training both ability and attitude wise, and with Banksy not available he has a great opportunity to impress, and what better game than a local derby in the quarter final of a cup?”
Questioned on any further signings Wormull said: “I have put a seven day approach in for a player yesterday, and we are just waiting to hear back from his club. And I am hopeful to add a new face to the squad tomorrow, albeit too late to feature against Eastbourne.”
Kick off at The Dripping Pan for tomorrow’s clash with Eastbourne is at 7.45pm, with the game being played to a finish on the night, extra time and penalties to decide the tie if necessary.
