Worthing working on new signings after Stanislaus departure

Worthing Football Club joint boss Jon Meeney says the club will look to bring in a new face or two after the departure of striker Reis Stanislaus.

Stanislaus has left Woodside Road after six goals in 19 games following a summer move from Molesey. The 28-year-old has been struggling with a groin injury and was also finding the travel difficult from his London home.

Meeney said: “Reis has shown great honesty and has left on very good terms.

“He was finding the travelling very hard, coming down here three times a week from London. He was having to leave work at 4pm for training and he felt he was only playing at 60 per cent because of his on-going injury.

“He was playing through the injury because he was so committed but he just needs a little rest from football to get himself back to full fitness now.

“He felt he wasn’t doing himself or the team justice but we thank Reis for his contribution and wish him all the best.”

Stanislaus’s departure leaves Worthing with just three strikers - Lloyd Dawes, Omar Bugiel and youngster Luke Brodie - with Ben Pope still sidelined with a long-term ankle injury.

Meeney said: “We have to be pro-active now. With Reis going, we need to look at bringing one or two in to fill the void.

“It’s something we’re working on and hopefully it will be sorted within a week or two. We’ll look at both permanent and loan moves - if it’s right for someone to come in short term, we’ll do that but we’ve got to look at permanent moves for the long-term as well because we want someone to come in and help the squad grow.

“Whoever it is, they’ve got to be right for us, aid us and better us.”

Midfielder Matt Axell has also left Worthing to move to Horsham on a one-month agreement to get game time, with Worthing assessing his situation at the end of the four weeks.

Meeney said: “We’ve got an agreement with Horsham that he’ll go there for a month to get some games under his belt.

“He’s had a groin injury, so needs some games and then we’ll assess everything at the end of the month.”

Will Hendon could return for Worthing’s trip to Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday, before a home match with Havant & Waterlooville on Tuesday.

Meeney said: “They’re great games to be involved in against two teams who should be in the top five at the end of the season.

“They’re going to be a great measurement of where we are but we’ll go into both games with no fear.”
