Anthony Hibbert’s second goal in as many games gave YM an early lead, before Luke Gedling doubled the visitors’ advantage from the penalty spot midway through the first period.

Gedling saw a second spot kick saved by Stringers’ goalkeeper Ben Head four minutes after the restart, but striker Sam Schaaf spared the midfielder’s blushes as he made it 3-0 shortly after.

Two goals in as many minutes then put further daylight between the sides as Luke Donaldson and then substitute Nick Sullivan, returning from four games out, completed the rout, as home defender Simon Stevens was sent off in added time.

YM assistant manager Dean Potter said: “I thought that it was a really good performance from start to finish. It was professional. We said to the players beforehand that you can look at the league table and the fact that they’ve only won two games, but we’ve still got to come and do the business.

“The last two games we have played well and we did so again today. I thought that we started excellently. We looked in control and when we did lose the ball we won it back quite quickly. I’m over the moon, it was a great performance.”

YM started sharply and found themselves in front early on as Dan Sullivan’s curled free-kick was headed home by Hibbert after just ten minutes.

They doubled their lead midway through the first half when Donaldson was brought down in the box, leaving Gedling to lash home the resulting spot kick.

The away side’s dominance continued after the restart and, after Schaaf’s cross struck an arm, Gedling’s second well-struck penalty was tipped onto the bar. Just six minutes later a Dan Sullivan ball over the top of the defence freed Schaaf and he coolly slotted home.

The visitors then notched twice in as many minutes as Donaldson poked home on the slide from 12 yards and Nick Sullivan’s deflected effort from the edge of the area looped home.

Potter added: “Everyone played their part today. You need a squad. It’s not about having a starting 11. We were fortunate to have Nick (Sullivan) on the bench today. He’s missed the last four games, but he came on and got a goal which was great.

“Sometimes you’ve got to think defensively though and I think that Dan Pollard and Mark Zydonik have come in and looked solid at the back. It offers good competition for places.

“It was a great team performance, 5-0 away from home. But we set targets. Out of the four games against Eastbourne United, Arundel, Hailsham and Hassocks, we said that we wanted 12 points.”

Horsham YMCA: Fox, D.Sullivan, Pollard (Crane 67), Zydonik, Evans, Gedling, Dugdale (White 74), Hibbert, Donaldson, Schaaf (N.Sullivan 71), Wright. Unused: Carden, Gathern.
