YM Reserves stretch their unbeaten run to go third

Horsham YMCA Reserves extended their unbeaten run to six games and moved up to third in the Suburban League table as they overcame a resilient Cobham outfit at Gorings Mead on Thursday.

All of the night’s goals came during a lively first 45 minutes, in which YM quickly deployed their usual, fluent passing game.

YM went ahead on the quarter hour mark, man of the match Ben Brooker beat his man and crossed for Harry Lowe to riffle home, and Lowe then returned the favour when he crossed for Brooker to lash home on the volley to round off a stunning team goal.

The visitors pulled one back from the penalty spot but ten minutes later a mazy Oli Leslie run ended in him finding the far corner. A handball from Nathan Sleat allowed the Hammers to net their second penalty, but the first half action wasn’t finished and after great work from Chris Spiers to win possession, Lee Thomas found Brooker to fire in powerfully.

The second half was far quieter and produced no goals, but still manager Paul Cooper was delighted, adding: “It was a good performance from us.” Cooper is eyeing a strong finish with three games remaining in what has been an impressive first season.
