Youth football: Burtoo? More like Bur-three for Midhurst

We've action featuring Barnham Trojans, Midhurst & Easebourne, Pagham, Chichester City Colts and Predators in this week's youth football round-up.

UNDER-15

Barnham Trojans 1 Midhurst & Easebourne 4

Midhurst dominated from the start but missed two early scoring opportunities.

Jake Burtoo opened the scoring and soon got his second.

Barnham began a fightback and Midhurst had to work hard – but just before half-time Will Murphy played a great ball through to Burtoo for him to complete his hat-trick.

In the windy second half a Barnham midfielder kicked towards goal from near the halfway line and the shot carried with the wind to go past the Midhurst keeper and drop just under the crossbar.

Midhurst responded with Murphy capping a good display with the fourth.

Lancing 3 Pagham 2

In appalling conditions Pagham took an early lead after Smith was fouled on the edge of the area and Knight rifled the free-kick into the top corner.

Lancing hit back and equalised when a lob from their striker beat the advancing Hambidge. Against the run of play, Lancing were awarded a free-kick on 33 minutes and took the lead. Pagham continued to attack and on 40 minutes after Arnell was fouled, Knight again hit the target from the free-kick into the net.

Lancing took the lead on 50 minutes from a corner and goalmouth scramble.

Pagham tried to get the equaliser but, despite their top display of the season, Lancing’s keeper kept them out.

Chichester City Colts 1 Pagham Youth 5

Not even the bad weather could put a dampener on this victory as Pagham cruised home 5-1 away to struggling Chichester.

Pagham initially had to work hard against a resolute Colts’ defence.

Pressure told as Jack Barnes hit a 30-yard wonder-strike from Rory Wood’s pass. Wood made it two with a left-foot shot following Luke Vincent’s build-up.

Barnes grabbed his second from a free-kick early in the second half before a mistake in Pagham’s defence allowed Harry Crocker to reduce the deficit.

Pagham regained the initiative as the weather worsened with Conor Game keeping his feet to lob the keeper and grab his first of the season. Vincent’s solo effort gave Pagham their fifth.

UNDER-14

Worthing Dynamos 4 Chichester City Colts 4

The Colts grabbed what could prove a vital point but it was two points dropped against ten-man Dynamos.

The hosts started brighter and were rewarded with an early penalty. This woke up the Colts and two classy finishes from Cheeseman put them 2-1 up. An own goal gave Chichester a 3-1 half-time lead.

Worthing came out for the second half with a nothing-to-lose attitude and pinned the Colts in their own half and were rewarded with two quick goals.

Cheeseman was denied a hat-trick and Worthing made it 4-3 before a magnificent goal-line clearance from Herrington.

A great free-kick from Gilyead was fumbled by the goalkeeper, Jack Graham tapped in to grab a late equaliser.

Predators Youth 7 Worthing Town Youth Blue 3

In atrocious conditions, Predators took the lead when Jacob Hislop stabbed in a corner for his first of the season.

Worthing equalised before Jordan Smith regained the lead for Predators. Worthing drew level again, but Ashley Butler restored the lead for the third time, only for Worthing to equalise yet again before half-time.

Midway through the second half Predators took the lead for the fourth time as Butler added two more.

Worthing pressed forward allowing Brandon Williams and Smith to exploit the gaps in their defence and complete the scoring with a goal each.

PREDATORS: Fellows, Burford, Butler, Donner, Evans, Hamilton, Hanslip, Koszkalo, McCabe, Sanctuary, Smith, Williams.
