Youth football: First weekend holds mixed fortunes for Pagham lads

Matches involving Pagham Youth, Wick Dynamos and Felpham Colts feature in our first youth football round-up of the season.

BOYS’ UNDER-16

Hawks Youth 2 Pagham Youth 0

Pagham’s first league game of the season was against last season’s county cup winners, who won here with two quickfire goals just after half-time.

The first half was very even with both teams creating chances but Pagham went into the break content to be on level terms.

Within five minutes of the restart Hawks took the lead with some smart play from their striker and a couple of minutes later it was 2-0 when the same forward latched on to a loose ball to fire home.

Pagham had a couple of good chances to get back in it but it wasn’t their day, despite lots of hard work.

Pagham started well and were soon one up with a lovely move down the left, Jays passing to Misselbrook, who crossed for Smith to fire home. Worthing hit back immediately to equalise.

Pagham were stunned but on 25 minutes Misselbrook played Jays through and he made no mistake.

And Pagham went further ahead on 35 minutes with Jays crossing for Cleall to head home.

The second half started in similar fashion with Rodway passing to Jays who, after drawing the keeper off his line, made it 4-1.
