Youth football: Predators lose to Trojan-like performance

Victories for Barnham Trojans, Bognor Allstars, Bognor Town and Chichester City Colts feature in our latest youth football digest - while the picture focus turns to Barnham Trojans’ new under-seven teams.

UNDER-16

Predators Youth 1 Barnham Trojans Red 2

Predators stormed forward and with Alex Burford and Scott Bingham combining well down the left side they were soon creating chances. They found the Barnham keeper in good form.

Midway through the first half Barnham opened the scoring after a defensive mistake which was seized upon with a clinical finish.

Back came Predators but as more chances went begging, another Barnham breakaway was converted to give them a two-goal lead at half time.

With 20 minutes remaining Predators were given a lifeline as a Barnham defender was dismissed for violent conduct. Predators were awarded a penalty which was converted by Brandon Williams. Barnham dug deep and were still hanging on as the final whistle went.

Bognor Allstars 6 Whyke Utd 1

Whyke opened the scoring in the 25th minute when a mix-up in defence allowed a player to run on and chip the advancing keeper.

But Allstars got back on level terms when a Charlie Osborne corner was headed into the net by Sam Howard via a deflection.

The second half saw Allstars continue to press and a Callum Slater pass sent Liam Morley away to fire into the bottom corner.

Allstars continued to play and a cross by Joe Jones was headed into his own net by a retreating defender. Slater got his reward when he chased down the keeper and fired home.

Taylor Floyd in goal pulled off great saves to keep Allstars in front. Allstars increased their lead when Jones met a cross at the far post. Jones then got his second and Allstars’ sixth when he rose to head home aan Osborne corner.

n Allstar are looking for players to increase the the size of their A league squad for this season. They train on a Tuesday night from 7pm to 8pm at The Arena, Bognor, and play on Sundays. For more, call 07527 779283.

UNDER-14

Bognor Town 8 Felpham Rangers 0

Bognor dominated this cup game from the off with attacking moves.

Jack Parkinson received the ball on the edge of the box, turned to shoot and the ball glanced off Ben Hauxwell’s studs and past the keeper to open the scoring.

Harry Wallers followed up by converting Parkinson’s cross with a close-range shot. Felpham counter-attacked but Piochowitzc’s shot went over the bar and Jodey Scott was rarely called into the game.

Harley Bain controlled Bognor’s back four to prevent any further penetration by Felpham. Mason HagaHammond, Ben Sullivan, Kai Swanson and Hauxwell dominated midfield with give-and-go football.

Will Linott’s cross into the box saw Parkinson volley home. Stanley Robey held Felpham at bay to make it 3-0 at half-time.

In the second half, Joe Bennett was put through by Antonio Maple and slotted home. Linott hit the bar and Wallers pounced on the rebound and took the score to five.

HagaHammond’s volley hit a Felpham player and deflected in. Bennett scored from a rebound after his own shot was saved.

Parkinson scored the final goal of the game, a belter from 35 yards.

Chichester City Colts 7 Rustington Otters Youth 0

Chicheste began their Challenge Cup campaign with a strong victory over Rustington.

Five minutes in, Jack Angell’s corner hit the post and Toby Watkins scored for Colts.

The Colts midfield and defence were solid and soon Taylor Parker sprinted past the Rustington defence to go one-on-one with the goalie and score superbly.

Will Parker played in Parker who squared it nicely to Liam Craddock, who scored a stunner.

After the break, Jack Jones took a throw that found Parker who delivered a superb, curling shot that went in.

Parker set up Watkins for a goal and two minutes later, Watkins had the ball off the Rustington defender and did the same thing again for his hat-trick.

Dominic Hamblin came on up front and Charlie Simmons’ long-range ball set him up for his first of the season.

Avisford Youth 4 Rustington Otters Red 5

A thrilling game on a chilly morning at Rose Green ended in a narrow defeat for Avisford.

Avisford tore out of the block, determined to avenge a 6-0 drubbing against the same side seven days earlier.Within ten minutes goals from Matt Kill and Sammy Copeland gave them a 2-0 lead.

However the black and whites have had a tendency to switch off and a 15-minute period in the first half turned the game on its head. Avisford conceded five times in quick succession.

The second half saw Avisford regain their composure. Eight minutes after the restart, striker Kill pulled one back for the home side after an error by the Rustington goalkeeper.

Otters tried to push forward but found a resolute defence led by man of the match Wiktor Nowak and some solid keeping by Longley in their way.

Five minutes from time, Salter tucked home his second goal of the season to set up a grandstand finish – but Rustington held on to secure the three points.

Barnham Trojans under-sevens’ red and blue teams, part of the Arun & Chichester Youth League’s developement section playing organised friendly games, have played their first gam.es

The club would like to thank three generous local businesses for there sponsorship of the under-sevens.

Firstly are Bognor accountancy firm Adams Beeny, who have sponsored the blue team with both kit and training tops. Managing director Mark Cook said: “This type of sponsorship not only helps the local community, but gives young children the enjoyment of playing sport, making new friends and keeping fit.”

The red team (pictured above) kit is sponsored by local taxi firm Barnham Station Taxis, whose owner said she was to help keep children active. Being local she has seen what Barnham Trojans have achieved over the years and was happy to help.

And the reds’ training tops have been sponsored by local double-glazing specialist Darren Longhurst Limited. Darren said he was happy to provide the children with the training tops and be associated with Barnham Trojans.
