Youth football: Seals perform well to seal it at Lancing

Selsey were too strong for a below-par Lancing team and bossed this cup semi-final from start to finish.

They played nice football, more than matching the physical game of Lancing to ensure they march on to their first final.

Selsey went ahead through a nice move that started at the back and, after a defence-splitting pass from Montague and a one-two between Grocott and Ayling, the latter finished cleanly under the advancing keeper.

Shortly before the end of the half it was two when the same pairing linked up again for a goal scored by Grocott, who gave the keeper no chance.

The midfield was shored up by Devlin, Hains, Drain, Kidwell with tenacious tackling to ensure the physical game was not lost.

The back was marshalled well by Weaver, Thomkins, Darby-Ryan and Sherlock, limiting Lancing to very few opportunities.

The start of the second half saw the first of two dubious penalties. Lancing dispatched theirs, giving Jones no chance and making it 2-1, only for Grocott to see one superbly saved at the other end.

Ayling and Grocott worked again for Grocott to claim his second and Selsey’s third and to seal the win.

The MoM vote was tight but Grocott got the nod.

Chichester City Colts 2 Montpelier Villa Afc 1

City Colts are in the Les Kempster County Cup final after seeing off Montpelier Villa at Oaklands Park.

Colts had to wait until the 13th minute for there first real opportunity when Taylor Parker hit an angled drive which flew narrowly wide.

A Montpelier Villa forward was foiled by impressive keeper Williams.

Montpelier Villa had been starting to gain the upper hand before Watkins played in Parker, who rounded the keeper from an acute angle but saw his cross was easily dealt with by the defence.

Parker beat his marker and hit a tremendous effort from the edge of the box which clattered against the upright.

Toby Evans played an inch-perfect ball to Craddock, who took a touch before lobbing the ball over the tall Villa keeper to give the Colts the advantage at the break.

Villa threw everything at Colts to try to force their way back into the game.

In the 62nd minute, Villa were rewarded for sustained pressure with an equaliser of the highest quality. A Villa forward beat Jones to the ball before firing an unstoppable effort past Williams.

Villa bombed forward looking for a late winner, but Colts weren’t having any of it.

Jack Angell won possession before playing the ball down the line to Evans. A neat passage of play led to Parker beating his marker before unleashing an unstoppable strike from the edge of the area into the top corner.

Villa again threw numbers forward but the Colts rose to the challenge and kept them out.

William Parker was named MoM.

Bognor Town 4 Predators 0

Bognor started strongly and their pressure soon paid off with Linnott slotting home the first corner of the game after a good delivery from Bennett.

The Predators keeper sustained an injury when taking a goal kick and had to be replaced. Predators won a free-kick which Mockford-Allott stepped up to take, but he twisted his back and was taken off on a stretcher by an ambulance crew.

After half time, Bognor applied a more attacking strategy and were rewarded with a well-struck goal from Jack Parkinson. This inspired Bognor and the midfield created numerous chances for the forwards.

Predators played nice attacking moves which could have resulted in a goal. But Bognor’s third came from Parkinson’s strike being deflected by the keeper into the path of Pardey, who had no hesitation in drilling the ball in.

The final goal was scored by Greece-Harbor, who got on the end of Hauxwell’s delivery. Predators could have scored more but Bain kept his defence solid as in previous games.

Predators Youth 4 Selsey Seals 1

A strong wind and a bumpy pitch were not conducive to flowing football but Predators were soon into their stride and creating good chances. Selsey took the lead against the run of play with a swift counter-attack, catching out the Predators’ defence and scoring from their only real chance of the half.

Despite dominating, Predators reached the interval chasing the game and wondering whether missed chances would cost them.

The second half was one-way traffic as Predators stormed forward but Selsey defended stubbornly.

Eventually the pressure told as Alex Burford received the ball on the edge of the box and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner.

Alfie Daniels was causing havoc with his strong runs down the left and creating openings as first Toby Lauder crashed a shot against the bar and then, from a cross, Jacob Carroll headed Predators ahead.

Matt Morris capped a fine defensive performance with a powerful headed goal from a corner and Sean Donner completed the scoring in the final minutes with a well-taken goal to round off a good team performance.
