Rustington Otters 2 Chichester Colts 1

Colts had most of the possession, moved the ball well and looked strong as a team. But despite numerous shots on goal, free-kicks and corners, the score remained 0-0 at half-time.

Colts started the second half with energy and ten minutes into the second half, Toby Evans delivered a beautiful corner that eventually fell to Toby Watkins, who scored the opening goal of the season.

The Rustington attack forged through the Colts defence to deliver their first goal of the season and the equaliser. Five minutes later a Rustington goal was disallowed.

Two minutes after that a Rustington corner saw the Otters score their second.

Colts continued to keep the pressure on but were unable to score the equaliser.

In the first game of the season, Chichester started quickly with new signing Callum Restall-Whitehouse lobbing the goalie after eight minutes.

Five minutes later, Ryan Johnson scored to make it 2-0. Will Breden scored his first of the day on 19 minutes and three minutes later another debutant Chris Barry made it 4-0.

Will Breden scored his second just before half-time to make it 5-0 at the break.

The second half was similar and the sixth goal came when full-back Dylan Webb delivered a lovely ball into the box for Jake O’Brennan to score a great header.

The team started brightly, with Fin Brian and Charlie Hunter causing problems down the wings.

Rustington took the lead on 12 minutes after Louis Theobold-Park latched on to a throw-in. The ensuing scramble saw the ball find the back of the net via a deflection.

Against the run of play, Rustington scored a second goal that was almost identical to the first, the final touch again coming off an Avisford head.

Coach Guy Hunter brought on Griffiths and Berry at the interval and a minute into the second half Berry ghosted in at the far post to tuck away Damian Wasowski’s corner.

This sparked a sustained period of Avisford pressure but then came the moment that knocked the wind out of Avisford’s sails. An innocuous looking challenge by Wiktor Nowak was deemed enough for a penalty which was dispatched past Luke Salter.

Avisford: Salter, Hall, Nowak, Longley, Jones, Hunter, Heppenstall, Brian, Kill Subs: Berry, Griffiths, Was.

Selsey Seals 2 Lancing 3

Selsey started their B-division campaign with a narrow defeat against Lancing. Selsey started well and pushed Lancing back from the kick-off with wave after wave of attack – with Hains, Ayling, Grocott and Montague thwarted by the Lancing goalkeeper.

Selsey finally went ahead after a passing move through midfield ending with a smart finish by Hains in the bottom corner.

A period of pressure from Lancing resulted in stout defending from Weaver, Tomkins, Devlin and Darby-Ryan with Jones making a couple of crucial saves.

Just before half-time the Lancing pressure finally told. A mix-up in the Selsey defence allowed the Lancing striker to tap in from two yards.

The second half saw changes from Selsey introducing Lennox, Trumper and Hall. Lancing broke twice to score two quick goals in a five-minute period which stirred Selsey into action with only five minutes remaining.

A Selsey player ran on to a through-ball and despite heroics from the Lancing keeper, Hains was able to dispatch the ball into the net to make it 3-2 with only two minutes remaining.
