Frankie says tuck in at gourmet Goodwood

THE world's most famous jockey Frankie Dettori has given his backing to Goodwood Racecourse's inaugural food-themed race night.

Dettori dropped in at the Chichester branch of Waitrose, which is the event partner, to whip up support for A Taste of Goodwood, Sussex and Beyond . . . to be staged on June 6.

As well as six spectacular races, the evening will be showcasing food and drink from local Sussex producers and suppliers.

Highlights will include opportunities for racegoers to sample a range of locally produced food displayed on the Goodwood lawns, plus the chance to meet and discuss food and drink with the specialists from Waitrose.

Dettori is no stranger to English food culture. Since 2004, he has owned the Frankie's Bar and Grill chain of restaurants with renowned chef and Hell's Kitchen presenter Marco Pierre White.

Rhys Evans, department manager from Waitrose in Chichester, said: "We are delighted to be supporting A Taste of Goodwood, Sussex and Beyond . . . race night because we believe that British produce is among the best in the world and local and regional producers are crucial to sustaining an important part of our food heritage.

"This produce should be celebrated to savour '“ and save '“ our country's unique specialities and reward those businesses that have a passion for producing distinctive, local foods."
