Giants to host world tournament

Bexhill Giants Basketball Club is getting ready to welcome teams from around the globe.

The Giants will host the World Club Basketball Tournament at Summerfields Leisure Centre in Hastings on Saturday and Sunday.

The tournament will see teams from USA, Tunisia, Philippines and England competing to be crowned World Club Tournament champions.

Giants chairman Eric Douglin said: “This tournament will be a great opportunity to promote English basketball on the world stage and boost the local community with these high profile teams in the town.”

The competing teams are USAF Lakenheath Eagles, USA Select Basketball, Lake Michigan Admirals, Club Sportif Hammem of Tunisia, Kampi UK, UET, Great Britain Police, Sussex Bears, Swords Thunder Ireland and the Giants.

Group matches will be played on Saturday, starting with the Giants against Great Britain Philippines representative team Kampi UK, followed by the play-off games and finals on Sunday.

There will be an opening ceremony at 11am and the matches will start at 11.30am. Entry is free on both days, however donations will be taken for the tournament’s dedicated charity, Kidney Research UK.

There will be a free coaching clinic for children aged 8-15 run by the USA coaches on Sunday at 10am. Parents who would like to reserve their child a place should call Eric Douglin on 07971 821457 or email [email protected]. You can drop in on the day, although places are limited.
