Giants' quartet get county call-up

BEXHILL Giants' preparations for the World Youth Friendship Games in Holland next month, were given a boost when four of the squad were selected for the Sussex U20 team to play in the South East Regional tournament in Sevenoaks next month.

Ian Berry, Lewis Grant, Crag Douglin and Alex Mander will play against the best young players from Kent and Surrey on July 3 with the aim of progressing to the SE Regional Squad.

Meanwhile, The Giants have been invited to travel to Cardiff to face the Wales National u18 squad, in a prestigious friendy on July 16. The Welsh squad will use the match as preparation for their participation in the European Promotions Cup in Malta in July.

Giants coach Eric Douglin said, "This is another excellent milestone in the Giants' short but eventful exsistence.

"I was contacted by Todd Stone from the Wales Basketball Academy, who said we were the type of team who would give his experienced squad a tough match.

"My players are looking forward to the experience which can only improve their game, and to playing in front of a large crowd in an excellent stadium."

p Bradley Douglin of the Giants U14 squad succesfully came through the first stage of his trial for the SE England team in Chessington on Saturday, when he was one of 15 players selected to return for the final stage of the selection process. If succesful Douglin will play in the SE England team at the National Basketball Championships in Lilleshall this November .

Bradley's brother, Craig Douglin, added to the weekend success when he helped his London Towers u20 team to victory in the Wimereux basketball tournament in Boulogne, in France at the weekend with victories over the host and French National League team Le Portel.

The Giants are still loooking for sponsors for the World Youth Friendship Games and the three teams they will enter in the Sussex Basketball League next season.
