Girls rise to the challenge at tournaments

BURGESS Hill School for Girls U13 Hockey Team took part in the Woldingham Invitational Tournament recently. With twelve strong teams from Sussex, Surrey and Kent entered, it was always going to be a tough competition.

In the group stage, the girls started slowly but soon found their fluency beating Thomas Battersea 3-0, Woldingham 3-0, Kent College 2-0 and drew 0-0 with Sevenoaks and Daneshill. They finished as winners of their section and gained a place in the semi finals against a strong Reigate Grammar side.

After going a goal down the girls fought hard, with Claudia James scoring two slick penalty corners and a goal from her team mate in open play saw them through to the final.

Here they played Daneshill for the second time, and this time the girls rose to the occasion and dominated play from start to finish to seal victory 1-0.
