Globetrotter stars at US marathon

GLOBETROTTING marathon man Otto Haas has completed his latest running venture in rather special fashion.

The Bexhill-based athlete, a veteran of international marathons in such places as Berlin, Sydney, New York, London, Paris and Boston, finished a splendid 96th from a nigh on 17,000 entry in the Washington Marine Corps Marathon on October 31.

Haas, a founder member of Bexhill Runners, covered the "not exactly flat and fast" course in a minute under the three hour barrier in unseasonably warm conditions where the temperature was around 25 degrees.

"I was very happy to break the three hour barrier for the second time this year," said Haas, whose other sub 180 minute time came in Paris during April. "There are a few nasty hills just where you don't want them, so most runners' times were outside of their personal best."
