GLYNDE MAKES ITS BID

ONE of the powerhouses of cricket in the Lewes area, the Glynde and Beddingham Club, have set out their stall to try and join the Sussex Cricket League from next season.

Roger Martin, club chairman, has written to league secretaries saying Glynde and Beddingham CC runs four teams in the East Sussex League.

The first eleven are champions of division one for the third consecutive season and the second eleven had won division three to become the only second eleven in division two next year.

There is a thriving youth policy which has played a major part in the club's success over the past five years. The average age of the first eleven is under 25 with potential to improve over the next decade.

Mr Martin points out the club has two grounds, enabling its 3rd and 4th teams to enjoy clubhouse facilities, rather than having to hire pitches away from the home environment.

'Both grounds have been inspected by Sussex League officials who confirm the main ground and all facilities are accepted to Sussex League standards,' he wrote.

The club is extending the re-roofing its clubhouse.

'To join the Sussex Cricket League has for some years been a club aspiration. We are now confident that our expansion of senior teams to four Saturday sides, the continuing development of our youth section with teams at under 10, 12, 13 and 14, will provide sustained expansion and improving standards.

'Financial stability is assured with high activity from members and strong club spirit and support,' his letter seeking support said.
