Glynde venture into unknown

GLYNDE know little about the opposition when they face up to the biggest match in their 122-year history against Hampshire League side Easton & Martyr Worthy in the 40-overs-a-side quarter-finals of the npower Village Knockout Cup on Sunday, starts 2pm.

Easton & Martyr Worthy beat Bledlow Ridge by seven wickets in the last round when they scored 153-3 in reply to the Ridge score of 152-9.

The villages of Easton & Martyr Worthy are situated on the eastern outskirts of Winchester but Glynde captain Dale Tranter admits he has little knowledge of the visitors.

Tranter said: 'I know they play in one of the Hampshire Leagues but that's about it.

'But that's not a worry, the tactics will be the same as usual '“ win the toss and bat and then rely on our bowling and fielding.

'We're running into form at the right time '“ Rob Mouland is in the runs, Dominic Harris is on song both bowling and batting and Dominic Shepheard's six-wicket performance against Heathfield Park on Saturday was just brilliant.

'Lord's is on the horizon '“ only two games away '“ but hopefully it won't deflect us from our bid to win the East Sussex League again.

'We've got Iden at home on Saturday and Seaford have a tough looking game at Crowhurst Park, so we're hoping things go our way.

'The real crunch game comes when we got to Seaford on Saturday week.'

Joe and Sam Adams, Rob and Stuart Mouland and Tranter are currently training with Ringmer Football Club with a view to playing at least in the reserves in the new season.

However, Tranter says the cricket is uppermost in his players's minds at the moment.
