Gold Cup Excitement

WITH the late addition of a new team, Cowdray Vikings, entered by the Hon Lila Pearson, sister-in-law of Lord Cowdray, there is an impressive total of 17 teams entered for the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup for the 2009 British Open Polo Championship.

Last year's winners Loro Piana will defend the title of British Open Champions. The team's patron Alfio Marchine is giving 18-year-old William Beresford, son of Lord and Lady Charles Beresford, the chance to make a Gold Cup debut playing at Back.

Lechuza Caracas, the team which lost 21 of their ponies in a freak accident in Florida earlier this year, had strings of ponies already based in England and has made its entry for the Gold Cup which they won in 2007.
