Golf and lunch is a perfect recipe for Cowdray Park ladies

The weather forecast for rain proved incorrect, so Cowdray Park ladies played their pre-Christmas lunch nine-hole competition in good conditions.

The golf and lunch were a resounding success, made all the sweeter with Caroline Haynes on the piano for carol-singing at the end of the lunch.

The nine-hole competition was won by Cath Yates with 16 points. Second was Myrna Heustice with 15, third Judy Stillwell and fourth Anne Laver.

The ladies’ last event of the year was the best nine holes, organised by Pat Wallace and Sally Williams.

Results: Jt 1 Jane Holden & Marilyn Davies 25pts, Jt 3 Sally Williams, Judy Stillwell & Frances Marjoram 24, 6 Wendy Street 23, Jt 7 Imke Sanderson & Sue Morris 22.

As a new year begins, the Surrey & West Sussex Winter League has reached the halfway mark with – so far – no interruptions from the weather.

Cowdray Park are well placed in fourth position with a game in hand over the teams above them in the table, although they do have four successive away games in January.

Puttenham head the table with a good balance of points from home and away matches. They lead with 14 points, ahead of Farnham (13) and Hindhead (11).

Cowdray Park have amassed ten points from their three home games but suffered a heavy loss in their only away game.

All teams will be hoping the weather does not have the impact it did last year when many matches were lost to the snow and ice.
