Golf: Cowdray get the better of Chichester - but only just

The lead match, involving match manager Tony Castley and Peter Laws, ended closer than seemed probable at one stage. Having gone four up after four holes, the Cowdray duo eventually won 3&2.

Match two went the way of the home side by 4&3 thanks mainly to superb putting from Peter Burton. The third match, featuring the best player on each side, Dave Hirons and Harry Harper, went to the wire, with a superb chip on the 18th from the home side’s Alan Godfree securing the win by one up.
