Golf: Grouse competition holds Rich pickings

Fifty golfers took part in the Famous Grouse foursomes at Bognor. The winners were Rob Redmond and Trevor Rich with a nett score of 70.5.

Ray Twine and Mike Hornby were second on 71 and third on 71,5 were Cameron Lang and Stuart Bell.

The vets’ team, captained by Dennis Burke, lost 5½-2½ at Chichester.

Results: D Burke & M Wadley lost 1 down, D Turner & P Black halved, C Millett & H Diaper won 4&3, T Wells & H Layton lost 2&1, R Hedge & P Collins lost 3&1, R Selway & D Hollis lost 6&5, P Bell & D Sheath won 2&1, B Moore & V Ward lost 2&1.

Having lost earlier in the season at Selsey, John King, the captain on both occasions, was pleased the return match at home was won 5-3.

Results: Jim Barker & Harry Layton won 6&5, J King & A Bence won 6&4, M Wilson & D Hollis lost 6&5, J Catt & H Diaper won 4&2, B Moore & B Baylis lost 5&4, R Selway & E Bridger won 4&3, V Ward & H Hurley lost 6&5, J Woodhead & D Sheath won 3&2.

Meanwhile - pictured above - vets’ captain Roger Selway has congratulated Michael Oates on his Stableford victory on the captain’s prize day.
