Golf Pavit starts in May this year

THE annual Sussex inter-club scratch golf competition for the PAV Trophy will start almost six weeks later this year, with the first round being played on May 9.

The decision will be well received by players who often felt that beginning this Inter-Club Matchplay championship in late March left them at the mercy of greens not always fully recovered from the winter.

There is no change in dates for the later rounds, with the final scheduled for September 12.

The draw for the opening rounds is fixed for March 20 at the home of the current trophy holder, East Sussex National.
