Golf: Rogers out to mark his mark in Disabled British Open

Derek Rogers, a member at Goodwood Golf Club, is attempting to win the most prestigious golf championship for disabled golfers in Britain.

He is taking part in the yourgolftravel.com Disabled British Open.

The three-day event takes place at East Sussex National starting today (Friday), with highlights to be shown on Sky Sports next month.

Competition for the title will be fiercer than ever before in a field that includes a two-time Paralympic champion and a defending champion who only this month competed in the Seniors’ Open Amateur Championship, one of the prestigious events around for able-bodied golfers.

The fully-subscribed event will see more than 80 golfers travel to East Sussex from as far afield as Pakistan and the USA, with 16 countries represented in total.

The Disabled British Open was conceived in 2009 and delivered by the Accentuate project, funded by SEEDA and the Legacy Trust UK, to create a lasting legacy after the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games.

This year, for the first time, it is working with the Seve Ballesteros Foundation, in partnership with Cancer Research UK, as its official benefiting charity for 2012.
