Beauport duo heading for Turkey

Beauport Park Golf Club’s head professional Charles Giddins and club captain Kim Baker are packing their bags for Turkey after winning the Regional Final of the PGA Pro-Captain Challenge.

The same pairing had missed out in the 2011 edition on countback after shooting nine-under, but wiped out the disappointment by sealing a place for the 2012 Grand Final.

This year an eight-under total of 63 was enough to take the win at Effingham Golf Club in Surrey and the duo can now look forward to competing for £25,000 over the PGA Sultan Course at Antalya Golf Club in Turkey from November 30 to December 1.

It will be Giddins’ second PGA Pro-Captain final appearance in four years after he and former captain Andy Hulls travelled to Bahrain in 2008.

Giddins said: “I’ve been to the final once but I’ve also known the disappointment of missing out on countback. Kim was my captain last year too and it was a long car journey back. One-and-a-half hours felt like a day! We were gutted. So this was very different and we were delighted to make it through this time.”

Baker added: “We like playing here, it suited both of us. I think we both wanted to try and make up for last year but I didn’t know quite how well we were doing until the end. It’s good for the club that we’re back in the final.”
