The Staplecross-based professional moved up nearly 80 places over the third and fourth rounds at PGA Catalunya Resort in Girona to make the cut for the final two rounds on the mark.

Evans began the epic event well enough with two birdies in the first nine holes of his opening round on Sunday, but three bogeys on his second nine meant he had to settle for a one-over-par 71 on the Tour Course.

He slumped to tied 141st after a five-over second round 77 on the Stadium Course, but started the turnaround with a three-under 69 over the same layout in round three. A birdie at the first and an eagle at the third set the tone for the day, and three more birdies followed.

Evans moved up a further 34 places courtesy of a bogey-free five-under 65 over the Tour Course today (Wednesday). Four of his birdies came on his final nine holes, including one on the last which moved him up to tied 62nd with the top 70 advancing to the final two rounds.

The fifth and six rounds are due to be played on the Stadium Course tomorrow and Friday, and the top 25 and ties at the end of them will earn European Tour cards for next year.
