The evening raised more than £2,000 to go to Stabler’s chosen charity, Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Stabler said: “I am absolutely thrilled that the event was such a success and I can’t thank the members enough for their generosity and support. We had a fabulous evening, with great food and a really entertaining singer, as well as the auction, and it was a superb night”.

Donated auction items ranged from tickets to watch Manchester United, golf days out and meal vouchers, as well as some members offering to provide free labour in their varied professions.

Chris Sowden, who organises the meat raffle at the Wilkes Head public house in Eastergate, also donated a cheque for £500.
