Carnival atmosphere at Haywards Heath Golf Club
It was the traditional Captains Drive In and the new captains, Club Captain Martin Hubbard and Ladies Captain Sarah Brooks alongside Junior Captain Charlie Baldock made a noisy and colourful entrance. Led by a Brazilian style samba reggae band the three captains danced their way to the first tee.
A large crowd had gathered to see them arrive and there was an air of anticipation as they prepared for the drives.

Hide AdFirst up was the new club professional James Verrall and despite all the barracking he was able to compose himself and hit a respectable shot. The junior captain Charlie Baldock was next and with no sign of nerves also hit a decent drive. A drum roll from the band announced the turn of Ladies captain Sarah Brooks. After a quick adjustment of the headdress another good drive was hit. Last to drive off was the 2016 captain Martin Hubbard but despite losing his hat on his backswing and to plenty of banter from the crowd managed to make a good connection for his drive.
Handshakes all round and after several family photos, it was back to the clubhouse for mulled wine and presentations.
This year the club charity will be the Sussex Heart Charity.
