Dixon cards 12 pars to lift the Goodfellowship Cup

Length off the tee and a sure touch on the greens made Kevin Dixon Mannings Heath’s first winner of 2015 as he carded 42 points to win the traditional New Year’s Day competition for the Goodfellowship Cup.

A 10am airhorn blast sent 58 starters teeing off for the curtain-opener and scores were impressive given the strong wind and a Waterfall course offering minimal run.

Playing off 11, Dixon carded 12 pars and a birdie for his five-over-par 77, but he was run close by 20-handicap Martin Lumbard, who blobbed three holes yet still posted an excellent 41 points.

Third, a further point adrift, was Tony Hill whose wife Julie carded 39 points to finish as top lady.

The Trevor Watts Cup for the best junior was claimed by five-handicap Gregor Macintosh with 38 points after a round of two birdies and an eagle.

Saturday’s Stableford was a washout, but the rain relented for the Sunday competition which again yielded several fine scores.

Andy Putnam, off 12, carded ten pars and a birdie for 42 points and a one-shot handicap cut in Division 1.

Runner-up Andy Simmons also saw his allowance trimmed, from nine to eight, after a 41-point haul and a faultless inward half of nine straight pars.

Alan Houliston took the Division 2 honours with 39 points off 22, a point clear of Philip Andrews and two ahead of Martin Lumbard.
