Eastbourne golfers enjoy festive fun
The sun came out for the seniors’ Christmas nine-hole thrash at The Lottbridge Golf Club, with many golfers playing in their festive outfits.
The course was still very wet but the greens were in very good condition considering the weather.
Scoring was quite close for the places but the overall winner with a fine nett 28 was Geoff Rowlands. Second place was Derek West, on countback from Trevor Body in third, both with nett 30.
There were lots of nearest the pins with Trevor Body, Richard Ellis, Ian Howell, Alf Beney, Gordon Martin and Wayne Funnell all sharing the spoils.
The prize for the best outfit went to George Schneider for the best pair of Christmas hotpants seen in a long time.
A special presentation went to Pete Byers for all his hard work running the Monday and Friday thrash over the years.
Meanwhile Willingdon GC’s seniors’ section held their final competition of the year. It was very well attended with more than 40 entrants.
The winners, who all scored 40 points, were Peter Snashall, Hugh Thomas and Colin Wood and in fourth place with a very respectable 38 points was a true senior, Alan Maslin.
