Nessling, of Cooden Beach Golf Club with a coaching attachment to Sedlescombe Golf Club, finished tied 10th at Royal Cinque Ports yesterday (Tuesday).

The Hastings-based player carded rounds of 73 and 69 for a level par total of 142, and produced a terrific fightback from +4 for the day at one point in his second round.

Afterwards he wrote on social media site Twitter: “Well long day 73/69 not bad but wasn’t good enough, game not there atm. Great fun thanks for all the support @Hera_Indemnity #TheOpen”

Only the top three of the 72 starters at the Kent course - one of four venues being used for Final Qualifying - made it through to The Open itself and all of them finished five-under.

Nessling, who plays on the PGA EuroPro Tour, booked his place in Final Qualifying after coming tied fifth in Regional Qualifying at Hankley Common last week.
