The local duo knocked out a string of European and Challenge Tour golfers over three days and five rounds before going down 3&2 at the last four stage.

After beating second seeds and 2012 runners-up Jamie Little and Liam Bond, both Challenge Tour players, 1 up in round one, they saw off Ladies’ European Tour ace Hannah Burke and Daniel Field on the 17th in round two.

In round three, they were pitted against Francis McGuirk and Benn Barham, both of whom have competed on the European Tour. After Doswell holed a 12-footer to halve the 17th and keep the match level, a par was enough to win the 18th.

Next up was the team of double European Tour winner Jamie Spence and European Tour player Simon Griffiths. The local boys lost the first to go behind for the first time all week, but won the next two en route to a 3&1 victory.

Their quarter-final was a dramatic affair against current European Tour star Sam Little and his amateur partner Alex Newman. Alleyne-Davis and Doswell looked to be on their way out when 3down with three to play, but they won the last three to take the match into sudden death before Doswell holed a 6ft birdie putt to put the boys into the semi-finals.

This was where the journey ended, however, as the pair went down 3&2 against in-form Challenge Tour players Steven Tiley and Ricki Neil-Jones. Potential sponsors should email [email protected] or [email protected]
