Wicks, of Sedlescombe Golf Club, found out on Monday that he’d been picked to play in the Jones Cup Invitational in Georgia from February 5-7.

The Jones Cup is a 54-hole individual strokeplay event played at Ocean Forest Golf Club, which hosted the 2001 Walker Cup match. It brings together many of the finest amateurs from the United States and abroad.

Thirteen different countries, including Zimbabwe, Poland, the Philippines and Costa Rica, were represented in the 2015 event and six past Jones Cup participants competed in last year’s Ryder Cup, namely Bubba Watson, Webb Simpson, Patrick Reed, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler and Victor Dubuisson.

Wicks is in his first season at Jacksonville University in Florida and back in September won the team and individual titles in the 2015 GolfWeek Program Challenge - his first event with Jacksonville.

The 2014 Sussex amateur champion previously enjoyed an ultra-successful two years at Midland College in Texas, both on the golf course and academically.

Wicks, from Bexhill, was an NJCAA and Ping Golf All-American as a freshman, and was named in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference first team. In all he won seven events while at Midland.
