Ladies Championship Rosebowl at Haywards Heath Golf Club

In glorious sunshine on Tuesday 16th June, the ladies from Haywards Heath Golf Club turned up to play for the Ladies Championship Rosebowl and the Gibbs Challenge Trophy.

Our Club Professional, James Verrall, acted as starter for the day and helped get the day off to a smooth start for the 19 competitors.

The Championship is a 36-hole Medal competition with 18 holes played in the morning and 18 holes in the afternoon. There were some very good scores in both the morning and afternoon rounds, contributing to the Course Standard Scratch going down to 71 for each round. The winner of the Championship Rosebowl, with gross 77 in the morning and 86 in the afternoon, an aggregate score of 163, was Jo Kernohan. In second place, with gross 83 (AM) and 82 (PM), 165 aggregate, was Rebecca Dawson. In third place, with the same score but missing out on countback, was Meg James, with gross 82 (AM) and 83 (PM), also 165 aggregate.

The best morning score, from those people not already winning a prize, was carded by Haley McCartney with gross 86, and the best afternoon score of gross 88 by Aisling Cloonan.

The Handicap trophy was won by Katie McNeil with a nett aggregate of 133. In second place, with nett aggregate 141, was Alison Hopson and in third place, with nett aggregate 143, was Margaret Jones.

There were 48 ladies playing for the Gibbs Challenge Cup on the same day. For those players, the Course Standard Scratch went up to 73. Winning the trophy was Hester Gemmell with nett 72, with Dora McCabe losing out on countback and taking second place, also with nett 72. In third place, with nett 73, was Rachel Addison. The best Front Nine was won by Olivia Charley with nett 34 and the best Back Nine by Judi Fisher also with nett 34.

In the evening all the ladies came back for the Prize Giving Presentation with our Lady Captain, Kath Honeysett, presenting the prizes to the winners. There was a wonderful “mother and daughter” moment, when Kath presented the Handicap trophy to her daughter Katie. The ladies went on to enjoy a buffet supper over much discussion about the missed putts and the wayward drives. Such is golf!
