New captain Kite flies in at Littlehampton Golf Club

NEW Littlehampton Golf Club captain Ian Kite’s drive in was completed in style as his team secured the Burrell Trophy in the club’s handover.

Kite, who is taking over from outgoing skipper Richard Jays, directed his team to victory in the annual match play joust between the sides as they prevailed in the wind and rain as the members battled the elements as well as each other.

The presentation ceremony followed afterwards in front of a good turnout of members with Kite being presented with the traditional new Captain’s jacket.

Kite said: “It was great to see so many members down at the club enjoying the celebrations and I am really honoured to be appointed captain of this great club.

“I am so looking forward to my year in office and hope we shall have a lot of fun and also help support such a great charity which is close to my heart.”

The incoming has chosen dizzy.org.uk Support for Diabetes as his charity who’s representative Jules Chaffer was on hand on the drive in to say a few words and inform the members of the many activities carried out by the charity in their superb work.

Throughout the course of his year as captain Jays was immensely proud of the members who have contributed generously to help raise a superb total of £5,000 for which a cheque was handed over to Jane Ramage representing the chosen charity of The British Heart Foundation.

A recent charity dinner and auction at the club helped raised over £1,200 courtesy of some generous gifts and services donated by members and local businesses.

Jays said: “I have had a really enjoyable year and cant thank the members and staff of Littlehampton Golf Club enough for their generosity and support and I would now wish Ian well for his year as Captain of our great club”.

Littlehampton boasts the only links course in West Sussex and it is the fifth oldest club in Sussex having opened way back in 1889.
