Winter Pro League reaches a tense climax at Piltdown Golf Club

The Winter Pro League, as reported two weeks ago, reached a tense climax when the two top teams had to play each other in the final round.

I didn’t know this at the time, but I hear it all came down to the last putt in the last match.

Mike Haynes had to hole it for his team to win the entire league. He missed, and his team came second. So distraught was he that when he came in he called for the regimental revolver.

Shame really: it was a four-footer, and even I missed one of those once. However, his ghost appeared at the League Dinner, in full dress uniform (see photo).

This week the Piltdown Ladies held their first competition of the season, a Bring-and-Win foursomes Stableford. Who won? Everybody! The best score was 36 points by Sue Gould-Davies and Helen Gallagher.

In the March Cup Medal on 21st March Steve Warren won on countback from Paul Bougon, both on nett 70, with Thomas Climie third also on countback from Peter Barrett and John Graham, all nett 72.

The March Cup itself is limited to those who have won a weekend competition in the previous year, and here Paul Bougon was triumphant. Congratulations to him!
