Goodwood cricketers hoping summer will be dry - but not dry of runs

Goodwood Cricket Club held their annual meeting, where members said they hoped the summer would bring better weather than 2012 - when they lost seven games because of it.

The club enjoyed a fair amount of success last year, winning 12 games and losing five. They were knocked out of the Downland Cup early, having made the final the previous season.

Tony Gammon headed the batting averages with 38, closely followed by Will Gammon, Johnny Heaven, Matt Geffen, Jamie Miles, Johnny Clifton and keeper Tim Odell, who did stirling work behind the stumps.

Skipper James Mayne took most wickets with Matt Beard and Heaven next in line.

Veteran Pete Willmer made a belated appearance after his hip op, taking six wickets in two games.

The committee were voted back in. Mayne was unanimously re-elected skipper and he presides over a very happy club.

Members agreed the high spot of the season would be games against Singapore and Goodwood (Australia).
