Goodwood's Glorious garden party

GOODWOOD Racecourse is opening the gates to the new season with a glorious Garden Party. The 2011 season begins on April 30, the day after the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. The Racecourse will be continuing the wedding celebrations in true Goodwood style.

Racecourse Managing Director Adam Waterworth said: “The nation will be in celebratory mood after the royal wedding, and we aim to capture the regal party spirit with a day of top class sport and entertainment to launch our new season at Goodwood Racecourse.

“Goodwood is renowned as one of the most beautiful racecourses in the world and was famously described as ‘a garden party with racing tacked on’. The opening day of the new season will celebrate this unique Goodwood atmosphere.

“We’ve spent the last six months preparing for the new season, and we are looking forward to welcoming regular racegoers and new visitors to Goodwood.”

Clerk of the Course Seamus Buckley is confident the course will be at its best when racegoers arrive, despite harsh winter weather. He said: “We’ve carried out a rigorous regime of repair and maintenance since the last horse left the course after the final day’s racing in October 2010, and I am confident the course will be in perfect condition.”

The Tote will be sponsoring the entire race card, which features the totesport EBF Conqueror Stakes, and a new listed race for this year, the Daisy Warwick Stakes, for fillies and mares. Two of the day’s races will be broadcast live by Channel 4 Racing.
