Gopal, opening the innings, went to town on the Stirlands bowlers, making 127 from the first 158 runs scored, before he was third man out.

He caused carnage: 102 of his runs came in boundary hits, with 24 fours and a six. Karl Stedman, his opening partner added 61, but scored only 15 in the partnership.

Gopal s other main partner was Martin Pallant. He cracked 48, putting on 96 with Gopal for the third wicket, while playing a supporting role.

He then opened up a little, proving a middle-order mainstay, until he became a victim of Sean Heather.
