Grace to run at Olympic Stadium

The 16-year-old from Pett, who attends Rye College, will contest the girls’ 1,500m at the Sainsbury’s 2012 School Games finals from May 6-9.

She said: “I’m really excited about being selected. It’s such a great event and competing on the Olympic track is such a special opportunity, especially because it is so close to the Olympic Games.”

The Sainsbury’s 2012 School Games is a multi-sport event for school-aged elite athletes. Around 1,600 young people will compete across 12 sports, six of which include disability competition.

For this its inaugural year, the Olympic Stadium, Velodrome, Aquatics Centre and ExCel Centre in London will be among the venues hosting competitions.

The sports included in the Sainsbury’s 2012 School Games are athletics, badminton, cycling, fencing, gymnastics, hockey, judo, rugby sevens, swimming, table tennis, volleyball and wheelchair basketball.

There will also be demonstration events in disability judo, gymnastics display and sitting volleyball. More than 35,000 spectators are expected with young people from across the country heading to London to watch the action.
