Grandstand to be 'one of the best in country'

FONTWELL Park racecourse is poised to have a new grandstand '“ the first to be constructed on a Sussex racecourse since the Kerman Stand was built there in 1991.

The board of Northern Racing has given approval for the development of a new 7.5m grandstand in the Premier Enclosure at the racecourse.

Architects have been appointed to produce a three-storey building complete with 12 private hospitality boxes on the top floor, a glass fronted hospitality/banqueting lounge for 250 people on the middle floor and a multi-purpose hall on the ground floor with new catering and betting facilities.

It promises to be one of the best grandstands in the country.

As well as being used for more than 20 race meetings a year, the stand will be hired seven days a week for events including weddings, conferences and exhibitions. Detailed plans will be completed this summer with a planning application being submitted to Arun District Council in August/September.

Once planning approval has been granted the stand is expected to take 14 months to build.
