Gym Academy girls mop up medals on Sussex travels

A TRIP to the Uckfield floor and vault competition in June proved worthwhile for a team of enthusiastic gymnasts from The Gym Academy in Chichester.

The competition saw a number of gymnasts, some new to competion, competing in individual age groups.

Overall scores were Lucy Stray (fifth), Sophie Hogton (sixth), Lois Huntingdon (15th), Grace Michell (fourth), Caitlin Robinson (fifth), Tyler Hilton-Christopher (seventh), Lara O’Brien (fifth) and Loren Pegg (seventh).

Medals were won by Mae Elliott (silver), Georgia Dorney (gold), Comfort Yeates (gold), Liana Dorney (gold) and Summer Yeates (bronze).

The success continued at the Sussex four-piece advanced competition in Burgess Hill, where a smaller team competed and returned home with a clutch of medals.

Eight-year-old Summer Yeates performed brilliantly.

She was first on vault and bars and third on floor and beam to give her silver overall.

In the ten/11 advanced group, Mae Elliott gave a strong handspring performance to come third on vault, with team-mate Georgia Dorney scoring consistantly on all four pieces to win bronze overall.

The Gym Academy is open to all children between the ages of 4½ to 12.
