Hailsham Community College is pleased to announce the opening of a new Cricket Academy.

This Academy will provide opportunities for talented cricketers to practice and widen their knowledge around the sport, through specialist input. The chosen 16 students will be involved in extra training sessions provided by Skillz Cricket Academy (www.skillzcricketacademy.co.uk), fitness sessions organised and hosted at Freedom Leisure, visits to the science labs and facilities at Brighton University and playing/training kit supplied by Gray Nicholls. Training sessions are already being run every Wednesday afternoon at the college and will increase to twice a week in Term 3.

In addition, specialist cricket coaching will be provided to local primary schools through Skillz, to create a pathway between primary schools and Hailsham Community College in order to offer high quality provision for young talented boys and girls in the local area.

This year will see the squad compete as an Under 14 team in a variety of competitions for the first time in the college’s history, such as the National Twenty20 competition, a new indoor schools competition and the County Cup which we achieved so well in last year. The National Twenty20 competition will see us pit our skills against the likes of Bedes, Lancing and Eastbourne College.

We are looking to provide students with training and playing kit for these exciting opportunities and are asking local businesses or individuals that want to be involved in this project from the beginning to get in contact with us. We have some very exciting plans for the future of the Cricket Academy and want to engage the local community with the project.
