U9s: Happy Harry.

There were six players in this category, all playing each other and the standard was very high for players so young.

Top seed Harry Filson (Holbrook School), who is still an under 8, was the clear winner and was untroubled in his five victories.

Zach Hodges emerged as the best of the rest, with four wins. He defeated Ben Wilson and Jack Green (both from Holbrook school) both 3-0, but had to work harder against the other two players, who both attend the same school as Hodges (Southwater Junior Academy).

Hodges’ match vs Ben Cowland was a tight three-setter 11-9, 12-10, 11-5, but Ollie Michell pushed him all the way to 11-9 in the fifth, after Hodges had recovered from a 0-2 deficit (9-11, 4-11, 13-11, 11-4, 11-9). Michell also missed out over five ends to Cowland, having led 2-1 in games 7-11, 11-7, 11-9, 7-11, 8-11. Green had a very good and very close win over Wilson to come fifth 10-12, 12-10, 12-10, 11-9! A doubles event was run after the singles and Cowland paired up with Hodges to beat Filson and Green 3-0 and Wilson and Michell 3-1.

Final Positions: 1) Harry Filson; 2) Zach Hodges; 3) Ben Cowland; 4) Ollie Michell; 5) Jack Green; 6) Ben Wilson

There were 8 players in this event and again it was a round robin. Kieran Bonner won all of his matches. Most were 3-0, but his matches against the players who finished second and third both went to four sets. Harry Huddlestone had a first ever match win over Southwater Junior Academy school mate, Will Michell 3-1 to take the runners-up trophy 11-6, 2-11, 11-9, 11-8 to add to his U11s runners-up trophy won in May. Straight after that match Michell had to face Bonner and went down 16-18, 9-11, 11-7, 7-11. Both Huddlestone and Michell won their remaining matches in straight games. Reece Packham was next best with four wins. All of the players got at least one win, which was good. There were three pairs in a quick doubles event (just one game to 11), which was won by Huddlestone and Packham over Michell and Matt Weller 11-9. Weller & Michell had beaten Ollie Thorne and Bonner.

U18s: It All Works Out for Worskett.

There were just four entrants in the U18s (and indeed all of them are under 15), so it was decided to make the matches best of seven games to give the players more table time. First up top seed Chris Purdy beat Dom Hawkins 4-0.

Next was Joe Worskett vs Kerem Ergene and it was a good match, which Worskett won 4-2. Then Ergene defeated Hawkins 4-0. In match no. 4, Purdy started off strongly 11-4, 11-3, but then Worskett fought back 11-5, 11-3.

It went all the way to seven games and the last three games were all won 11-9, with Worskett shading it in the end. A great result for Worskett, who has only been playing for just over a year.

Worskett then wrapped up the event with a straight sets win over Hawkins to secure first place.

The final match to decide the runner up, and again Purdy was on the winning side 12-10, 8-11, 11-13, 11-7, 8-11, 11-4, 11-8 and added to his U15s runners-up spot in May.

The doubles was best of five and it was Worskett and Hawkins vs Ergene and Purdy, with the latter pair triumphing.

Final Positions: 1) Joe Worskett; 2) Chris Purdy; 3) Kerem Ergene; 4) Dominic Hawkins.
